Road Map for ACB to Promote Cricket in Afghanistan
10.05.2012 14:59Afghanistan cricket team earned great achievements in playing grounds around the world. But Now Afghanistan needs a working structure for cricket development and management inside country. Thus we can see better future for cricket in coming years.
Following Steps are needed to be taken.
Step.1 Transparency in cricket affairs is a must. Transparency is essential to earn the local and international confidence. World cricket body appreciates those cricketing authorities who show all their earrings and expenses .Open policy means no corruption in monetary affairs.
Step 2.Afghan cricket board should consider five tasks very seriously.
A. Domestic cricket
B. Building new grounds
C. Contact group
D. Marketing
E. Media Relations Department
F. Board of Observers.
A. Domestic Cricket.
Afghan cricket Board should pay special attention to already established five cricketing zones. Every Zone must work with provinces to arrange inter districts matches for better player selection. Best Players from province will selected for zonal team. Second phase will be series of tournaments between zones, live telecast of these matches will help to promote cricket in Afghanistan. Last but not the least step in this stage will be an IPL style of cricket tournament in Afghanistan including teams from regional countries.
- Domestic Cricket has many more aspects too. Training and mobilization for under 19 and under 16 teams as well as encouragement of female cricketers will help cricket in every level. All these tasks can be work out with the help of a sincere and professional domestic cricket development team. Hiring former cricketers as coaches for zonal cricket teams will be very help full for the development of domestic cricket. Experience and skill of these players is an asset for Afghanistan and cricket board should not waste this wealth.
B: New Cricket Grounds:
Cricket academies and playing grounds plays very important role in domestic cricket development. Construction of new cricket grounds needs skilled and professional team of engineers. Budget for cricket grounds should be used properly and regular follow up is a must. Every cricket ground should have a full time ground manger, who will keep ground alive and active with regular matches.
C: Contact group:
Close and cordial relation between ACB and cricket boards from other countries is the need of the day. Arrangement of games for Afghan team in foreign countries and inviting other countries to Afghanistan should be the main task of contact group.
D: Marketing and Media relations Department:
We live in an era of show business. Cricket is not only a sport but also a source of entertainment. Nowadays many multinational companies and businesses are welling to sponsor cricket in Afghanistan, but attracting these sponsors needs a professional team .A Team of experts with fluent English and other major languages can bring great business for cricket board.
E: Media Relations Department:
The more we promote our cause through media the more we attract world towards our team. Cricket journalists with good skill of reporting needed for this job.They can update media on daily bases. A well mange and up to date ACB webpage is also an important part of media relations. Daily visitors to ACB web site means cricket lovers are following ACB.
3. Board of Observers.
There should be proper check and balance system on every step in cricket affairs. A group of observers should be in place to check the fairness in daily affairs. This board should have veto power in selection and removal of ACB officials. This board of observer must be consisted of volunteers from different walks of life. They integrity and impartiality of this board will stop any issue before becoming a big problem.
After considering the above mentioned suggestions and recommendations ACB can lay a strong foundation for the bright future of cricket in Afghanistan. ACB has a heavy responsibly on its shoulder and this is the time to serve the national cause.
