The International Cricket Council today announced a number of the remaining fixtures in its first-class tournament, the ICC Intercontinental Cup 2009-10, with everything leading towards the final, which will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Afghanistan is leading the points table at the moment with one more match remaining against Kenya to be played in Nairobi on 2nd – 5th October.

Canada and Ireland will clash on Tuesday 31 August in Toronto, but none of them are in a position to succeed to the expensive final. The match between Zimbabwe XI and Ireland has now also been confirmed and will take place from 20 to 23 September in Harare. The match is of high importance to Zimbabwe as the current battle for final is among Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Scotland. Top two teams will be playing the final in an effort to cash the 100 thousands US dollars prize given by ICC to the I Cup winner.

Another important match is the one to be yet confirmed between Zimbabwe XI v Scotland.

So far, the following matches are confirmed:

ICC INTERCONTINENTAL CUP

31 Aug-3 Sep – Canada v Ireland, CSCC, Toronto

20-23 Sep – Zimbabwe XI v Ireland, Harare

Sep/Oct – Zimbabwe XI v Scotland (to be confirmed)

2-5 Oct – Kenya v Afghanistan, Nairobi Gymkhana, Nairobi

25-29 Nov – Final, Dubai, UAE (tbc)

Scotland won the first ICC Intercontinental Cup in 2004, beating Canada in the final, while Ireland has been victorious in all three events since then, beating Kenya in the 2005 decider, Canada in the 2006-07 event and Namibia in 2007-08. Will Afghanistan make to the final and be the winner this time; the coming three months are pregnant with the answer.
