Afghanistan’s national cricket ground in capital Kabul is preparing for the upcoming T20 Inter-Provincial tournament to kick off on 25 September. The ground is being under development for the last one month. The aim is to hold the upcoming trophy in a much improved venue.
Twenty four provincial teams will participate in the Trophy and will be broadcasted by Shamshad TV inside Afghanistan and through its satellite to audience in Middle East, Far East, Australia and New Zealand. The teams will be divided into 8 groups the ACB says.
The upgraded facility will include a much better leveled ground, a score board, a sight screen, seats for 2000 spectators, and two pitches instead of one as was the case in the last One Day Inter-provincial Trophy that was successfully concluded.
The National Youth Cricket Ground will get two pitches for the first time.
"The soil for pitches has been brought from Wrost Dand in the Logar province which is similar to the soil from Gujrat in Pakistan and is a rare type of mud that is suitable for pitches", the ACB media department says. It is the first time cricket fans in Afghanistan learn that such soil exists in Afghanistan as it used to be previously imported from Pakistan.
The ground gets more gross as well.
The scoreboard will help spectators to follow the score, it will be 3.5 meters high from the ground, 4 meters wide, and 3.5 meters tall.
The lawn is the same old, but where more lawn was needed, it has been added to those areas.
In addition to the 2000 seats, ACB is planning to raise banks (small hills) around the ground so it can accommodate more spectators.
Afghanistan plans to select its A team from this Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy.
The broadcaster of the Trophy (Shamshad TV) says it will be broadcasting all matches and has purchased new equipments that will help in an improved broadcasting and with new features.
